Welcome to the International Society of Tibetology

The International Society of Tibetology (IST) is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation of Tibetan culture and Buddhism. Our website at www.tibetology.org provides explanations of Buddhist practices, lineage masters, history, art, and music. A forum for discussion and sharing of information is given as well as links to ongoing and future projects concerning the development of Tibetan culture and religion from around the world.

The International Society of Tibetology seeks to educate both the secular and the religiou s. You will find ,+ therefore, teachings at www.tibetology.org that are beneficial for all who seek to understand themselves and the world around them more profoundly. IST examines not only Tibet 's present and future situation, but studies all of humankind's happiness and peace in consideration of human nature, love, and knowledge. The quintessence of human nature cannot be divided by differences in culture, race, or religion. In fact, when seen through the lens of love and responsibility, foreign cultures and customs are finally seen to be not so foreign after all. Humankind's most universal traits lie in certain innately born ethics and values within each person regardless of their origin.

Our fundamental sense of love compels our common sense of responsibility, driving humans toward mutual understanding and harmonious treatment of diverse religions and cultures. In recent years increasingly more people have grown interested in Buddhist philosophy while also becoming aware of Tibetan culture and hardships.

In view of this development, the International Society of Tibetology endeavors to:

1. Emphasize the basic human quality of peace, found in Buddha's compassionate spirit and promulgate Buddhist doctrine for the benefit of the entire universe. Tibetan Buddhism adapts scientific studies and art continuously from experiences derived from the body and mind. By virtue of Buddhism's continued relevance within the changing times, the ¡°e generation¡± has been increasingly attracted to Buddhist doctrines on the mind, the individual, the family, and society. Buddhism's relevance to all individual experiences and ability to serve the needs of people will for that reason preserve Buddhism by inheritance, also explaining how all living beings have aided in the evolution of Buddhism since its foundation.

2. Promote mutual understanding; create cooperative relations to facilitate the Tibetan religion, the culture, and the tradition to continue development; and support the enlargement of Tibetan religious cultural activities.

3. Provide a forum and structure for philanthropic involvement by promoting greater understanding between Tibetans and other peoples.

I believe that in life, money is a force always in flux; it constantly comes and goes, but in the end its significance and value will be determined only by its ability to serve other people. I always believe in the strength of one's mind, although it is still much of a mystery, to be of utmost importance in living one's life well.

I have an even more profound confidence in the power of meditation to bring internal peace, causing one to become composed and comfortable in one's own skin. When I think carefully about the relationship between oneself and their ego, between oneself and other people, between oneself and the vast environment, between oneself and that which is beyond our planet - and recognizing the boundaries of our meager abilities ¨C it causes me to wonder about seeking an appropriate life within the boundless sea of people? I invite you to visit the International Society of Tibetology ( www.tibetology.org ) to learn more about the organization.

As long as sentient beings remain,

Until then may I too remain

and dispel the miseries of the world

-- Shantideva
